REVILLA SR. & PABLO GOMEZ: LIFETIME
ACHIEVEMENT AWARDEES
Senator Ramon Revilla
Sr., a matinee idol who transformed
into an action star playing amulet-bearing
heroes, and komiks novelist Pablo
S. Gomez, who wrote the stories of
most of the films of late Fernando
Poe Jr., will receive this year’s
FPJ Lifetime Achievement Award during
the 24th Film Academy Luna awards
night on September 16, 2006.
The FAP’s lifetime
achievement award recognizes the contribution
to Philippine cinema of creative talents
and technicians that have made their
lasting impression in the field of
cinema arts during their career in
films and movies.
The selection of Sen.
Revilla and Mr. Gomez was finalized
during the board of governors’
meeting last Thursday, August 31,
at the academy office at OctoArts
building on Panay avenue.
PMPPA President Manny
Nuqui nominated Sen. Revilla while
Manny Morfe, president of the Production
Designers’ Guild of the Philippines
nominated Pablo Gomez. Three others
were also nominated but the voting
by the board of governors resulted
in the selection of Sen. Revilla and
Mr. Gomez.
In another voting for
special posthumous awards, the board
decided to bestow the awards to Ms.
Nida Blanca and composer George Canseco.
Since 1984, the Film
Academy has granted the Lifetime Achievement
Award to various individuals. It was
renamed the FPJ Lifetime Achievement
Award last year in time for the 23rd
Luna Awards to honor the late King
of Philippine Movies, Fernando Poe
Jr. Producer Marichu Maceda was the
recipient of the renamed award.
