FILM TITLES WITH NUMBERS

Philippine movie trivia writer Tante de Ramos wanted to prove that numbers invariably found their way into the titles of Pilipino movies. Offhand, he listed down more than 30 films with numbers in their titles. Let’s start counting now.

Apat na Alas – This swashbuckling epic movie ala Three Musketeers featured Manuel Conde, Mario Montenegro and Johnny Montiero.

Apat na Kasaysayang Ginto – Featuring four dramatic episodes wherein Fred Montilla, Linda Estrella and her daughter Tessie Agana starred, this omnibus film was produced by Sampaguita Pictures, Inc. of the Vera-Perez family.

Batalyon Trese – This war film starred by Jaime dela Rosa and Carmen Rosales and was directed by Manuel Silos for LVN Pictures, Inc.

Dalawang Panata – Anothr tearjerker offering of LVN Pictures, Inc. this movie starred Tessie Quintana and Jaime dela Rosa in the lead roles. It was produced by Doña Narcisa de Leon, Carmen Villongco and Eleuterio Navoa Jr.

Dalawang Sundalong Kanin – The great Pugo-Togo comedy team headlined this film which also starred the popular and long-running comedy logeteam of Nida Blanca and Nestor de Villa and Nida Blanca. This was another LVN Pictures production.

28 De Mayo – This was one of the films starred in by reel and real life loveteam of Romeo Vasquez and Amalia Fuentes. Its story was based on the real life tragedy brought about by a powerful typhoon that hit Manila on the date (in the 60s) used as title. It was produced by Sampaguita Pictures, Inc.

Dose Pares – Another film featuring the loveteam of LVN Pictures mainstays Mario Montenegro and Delia Razon.

Garrison Trese – This film recounted the heroic exploits of Filipino guerillas who battled the invading Japanese occupiers during World War II It starred Rogerlio dela Rosa who became a senator of the Philippines. It was also produced by LVN Pictures, Inc.

Got 2 Believe – The film starred then real life sweethearts Claudine Barretto and Rico Yan. The lead actor died several years later. It was directed by Olive Lamasan for Star Cinema Productions, Inc.

Labingtatlong Hakbang – This was another movie which starred by Fred Montilla and the real life mother-and-daughter team of Linda Estrella and Tessie Agana. It was produced by Sampaguita Pictures, Inc.

Liezl and Seven Hoods – The movie starred Liezl Sumilang (the daughter of Romeo Vasquez and Amalia Fuentes and now the wife of Albert Martinez) in an AM Productions which was owned by the lead actress’ mother. The hoods ion the title was led by perennial kontrabida Max Alvarado.

Limang Dalangin – A rare dramatic vehicle for Nida Blanca, this was produced by Narcisa vda. de Leon, Carmen Villongco and Eleuterio Navoa Jr. for LVN Pictures, Inc.

Limang Punglo – This action film, produced by LVN Picturs, Inc, starred Nestor de Villa and Tessie Quintana.

My Love at First Sight – This featured another of the most successful loveteams in Philippine cinema—that of Vilma Santos and Edgar Mortiz. This was produced by Sampaguita Pictures, Inc.

24 Na Pag-ibig – Another Sampaguita Pictures dramatic opus, this starred the legendary Carmen Rosales.

One Day, Isang Araw – Philippine Movie King Fernando Poe Jr. co-starred with the child actress Matet years after Da King made the successful teamup with Niño Muhlach years before. This certified box-offic hit was produced by his own outfit FPJ Productions, Inc.

Pitong Gatang – This movie became as successful as the teheme song that Fred Panopio yodeled for the film which starred Fernando Poe, Jr., Zaldy Zshornack and Shirly Gorospe. The movie was produced by Premiere Productions, Inc.

Pitong Pag-ibig ni Michaela – This was another Amalia Fuentes-Romeo Vasquez teamup for Sampaguita Pictures, Inc.

Pitong Sagisag – An action movie that starred by Efren Reyes Sr. and Lou Salvador Jr. with a nephew of Carmen Rosales, Jun Rosales, being introduced. It was directed by Nemesio Caravana for Premiere Productions, Inc.

Quadro de Jack – The Jacks in this film were played by no less than President Joseph Estrada and his nco-stars, Jess Lapid, Jun Aristorenas and Jing Abalos. The film was an entry of JE Productions to the Manila Film festival.

Siete Amores – This film depicted seven love stories with the cast spearheaded by the popular loveteam of Amalia Fuentes and Romeo Vasquez for Sampaguita Pictures, Inc.

Siete Infantes de Lara - Another trademark swashbuckling epic from LVN Pictures, Inc., this classic film starred three of the Laras as Mario Montenegro, Johnny Montero and Eddie Garcia. This action costume film was one of Director Manuel Conde’s masterpieces.

Story of Three Loves – Another love trilogy, one of the episodes in this film starred another popular love team in the persons of Maricel Soriano and William Martinez who became a successful comedy loveteam in the tradition of Nida Blanca and Nestor de Villa. This was produced by Mother Lily Monteverde of Regal Films, Inc.

Tatlong Hambog – The movie was produced by Jose Nepomuceno during the pre-war era of Philippine cinema. It starred Elizabeth “Dimples” Cooper and Luis Tuazon, a race car sprtsman.

Tatlong Ina, Isang Anak – The film starred Nora Aunor and her adopted child Matet. This came after a series of box-office hits that starred the child actress which were predominantly comedy films.

Tatlong Kasaysayan ng Pag-ibig - This was another of the Amalia Fuentes-Romeo Vasquez box-office hits produced by Sampaguita Pictures, Inc.

Tatlong Labuyo – An action film, it again fitted Mario Montenegro ands Delia Razon as a reliable loveteam who were a big hit in the comedy, drama and action genres. It was produced by LVN Pictures, Inc.

Tatlong Limbas – Relying on the popular mode of casting a triumvirate of actors for one film, this starred the Great Profile Leopoldo Salcedo, Ben Rubio and Ben Perez. This was produced by Fernando Poe Sr., under his own Royal Productions, Inc.

Tatlong Maria – This film, produced during World Was II, starred Carmen Rosales and Norma Blancaflor in the lead cast. Actually, the film was backed-up by Japanese financing during the Occupation but it remained unfinished when it was overtaken by events-- the liberation of the Philippines by returning American forces.

Tatlong Magdalena – This was another Carmen Rosales starrer produced by her mother studio, Sampaguita Pictures, Inc.

Tatlong Pagkabirhen - This was a prewar movie which starred child actor Angelito Nepomuceno, a son of Jose Nepomuceno who was known as the Father of Philippine movies. The child actress who co-starred in the film was no other than Tita Duran who later became the reel and real life sweetheart of actor Pancho Magalona.

Tatlong Puso – This is another Tita Duran-Pancho Magalona starre which was produced by Sampaguita Pictures, Inc.

Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos – A wartime masterpiece of Mario O’Hara, this film starred Nora Aunor (who won a FAMAS award for her role here), Christopher de Leon as a Japanese military officer and Bembol Roco as a Filipino guerilla leader.

Tayong Dalawa – This movie starred another popular reel and real life loveteam—Gabby Concepcion and Sharon Cuneta. It was produced by Vic del Rosario of Viva Films.

9 Teeners – This featured the love team that rivaled the Vilma Santos-Edgar Motiz tandem with the pairing of Nora Aunor and Tirso Cruz III. It was produced by Ma. Victoria Villanueva of Tower Productions, Inc.

Tres Muskiteros – A local version of The Three Musketeers, this film’s muskieros were were Oscar Moreno, Fred Montilla and Cesar Ramirez. This was produced by Sampaguita Pictures, Inc.

Two for the Road – This movie starred the phenomenal and one and only superstar of Philippine movies, Nora Aunor. It was directed by Artemio Marquez for Victoria Villanueva’s Tower Productions, Inc.
