FAP
WORKSHOPS SLATED
Three workshops will
be conducted by guilds under the umbrella
of the Film Academy of the Philippines
in five weekends in October and November
in the areas of digital and conventional
editing as well as digital musical
scoring.
The series of workshops
further enhances the academy’s
mandate to professionalize film industry
workers to update them on advanced
film and digital technology.
The Avid editing workshop
will be held on October 21-22 and
28-29 at the FAP board room at the
OctoArts Films building on Panay avenue
(behind the National Book Store branch).
To be held from 9 a.m.
to 5 p.m. on consecutive Saturdays
and Sundays, the Avid editing workshop
will have as lecturer Alex Castañeda
of Ignite Media Inc. Castañeda
was the editor of Exodus,
the Enchanted Kingdom and
was nominated in this year’s
FAP Luna Awards.
The musical directors’
workshop on digital production of
music will be held on November 4-5
and 11-12 at the FAP board room too.
The project is sponsored by the Cinema
Values Reorientation Program (CVRP)
of the National Commission for Culture
and the Arts (NCCA).
Prof. Josefino Cenizal,
president of the United Film Music
Directors’ Association of the
Philippines (UFIMDAP), said that their
project is a four-day workshop which
intends to advance the knowledge and
technical capability of Filipino film
musicians, particularly in the area
of computer technology.
The workshop specifically
aims to provide the participants the
skills to handle digital production
of music through computer and keyboard
interactions that are designed for
musical scoring, arrangement, orchestration
and composition.
The workshop will be
participated in by UFIMDAP members
as well as new musical scorers who
can be prospective members of the
guild, Prof. Cenizal explained.
The workshop will have
Mr. Eric Narvaez as the main resource
person. He will provide the introduction
and explanations on the importance
of MIDI (Musical Instrument on Digital
Interface) and its ability to produce
and combine the required sounds of
different instruments into a beautiful
symphony of musical elements.
Narvaez is also expected
to introduce participants to computers,
auto-score keyboard and the Gemelege
speakers and allow them hands-on experience
with the equipment and instruments.
The third workshop will
be handled by the United Film Editors”
Guild of the Philippines (UFEG) and
is scheduled for just one three-day
weekend, November 24-26.
UFEG President
Jess Navarro said they are still finalizing
the out-of-town venue for the workshop
but is inviting guild members to avail
of this project which is also funded
by the NCCA.
