Three workshops will be conducted by guilds under the umbrella of the Film Academy of the Philippines in five weekends in October and November in the areas of digital and conventional editing as well as digital musical scoring.

The series of workshops further enhances the academy’s mandate to professionalize film industry workers to update them on advanced film and digital technology.

The Avid editing workshop will be held on October 21-22 and 28-29 at the FAP board room at the OctoArts Films building on Panay avenue (behind the National Book Store branch).

To be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on consecutive Saturdays and Sundays, the Avid editing workshop will have as lecturer Alex Castañeda of Ignite Media Inc. Castañeda was the editor of Exodus, the Enchanted Kingdom and was nominated in this year’s FAP Luna Awards.

The musical directors’ workshop on digital production of music will be held on November 4-5 and 11-12 at the FAP board room too. The project is sponsored by the Cinema Values Reorientation Program (CVRP) of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

Prof. Josefino Cenizal, president of the United Film Music Directors’ Association of the Philippines (UFIMDAP), said that their project is a four-day workshop which intends to advance the knowledge and technical capability of Filipino film musicians, particularly in the area of computer technology.

The workshop specifically aims to provide the participants the skills to handle digital production of music through computer and keyboard interactions that are designed for musical scoring, arrangement, orchestration and composition.

The workshop will be participated in by UFIMDAP members as well as new musical scorers who can be prospective members of the guild, Prof. Cenizal explained.

The workshop will have Mr. Eric Narvaez as the main resource person. He will provide the introduction and explanations on the importance of MIDI (Musical Instrument on Digital Interface) and its ability to produce and combine the required sounds of different instruments into a beautiful symphony of musical elements.

Narvaez is also expected to introduce participants to computers, auto-score keyboard and the Gemelege speakers and allow them hands-on experience with the equipment and instruments.

The third workshop will be handled by the United Film Editors” Guild of the Philippines (UFEG) and is scheduled for just one three-day weekend, November 24-26.

UFEG President Jess Navarro said they are still finalizing the out-of-town venue for the workshop but is inviting guild members to avail of this project which is also funded by the NCCA.
