of the National Commission for Culture

Prof. Josefino Cenizal,
president of the United Film Music
Directors’ Association of the
Philippines (UFIMDAP), said that their
project is a four-day workshop which
intends to advance the knowledge and
technical capability of Filipino film
musicians, particularly in the area
of computer technology.
The workshop specifically
aims to provide the participants the
skills to handle digital production
of music through computer and keyboard
interactions that are designed for
musical scoring, arrangement, orchestration
and composition.
The workshop will be
participated in by UFIMDAP members
as well as new musical scorers who
can be prospective members of the
guild, Prof. Cenizal explained.
The workshop will have
Mr. Eric Narvaez as the main resource
person. He will provide the introduction
and explanations on the importance
of MIDI (Musical Instrument on Digital
Interface) and its ability to produce
and combine the required sounds of
different instruments into a beautiful
symphony of musical elements.
Narvaez is also expected
to introduce participants to computers,
auto-score keyboard and the Gemelege
speakers and allow them hands-on experience
with the equipment and instruments.
Another editing workshop,
which will be handled by the United
Film Editors” Guild of the Philippines
(UFEG), is scheduled for just one
three-day weekend, November 25-27.
UFEG President Jess
Navarro said they are still finalizing
the out-of-town venue for the workshop
but is inviting guild members to avail
of this project which is also funded
by the NCCA.
