FAP
DECEMBER WORKSHOPS
Despite
its current budgetary constraints,
the Film Academy of the Philippines
will still hold two workshops—for
actors and musical directors-- in
December.
The musical directors’
workshop on digital production of
music will finally be held on December
2-3 and 9-10 at the FAP board room
at the OctoArts building on Panay
avenue Q.C. (directly behind the National
Book Store branch). The project is
sponsored by the Cinema Values Reorientation
Program (CVRP) of the National Commission
for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
Prof. Josefino Cenizal,
president of the United Film Music
Directors’ Association of the
Philippines (UFIMDAP), said that their
project is a four-day workshop which
intends to advance the knowledge and
technical capability of Filipino film
musicians, particularly in the area
of computer technology.
The workshop specifically
aims to provide the participants the
skills to handle digital production
of music through computer and keyboard
interactions that are designed for
musical scoring, arrangement, orchestration
and composition.
The workshop will be
participated in by UFIMDAP members
as well as new musical scorers who
can be prospective members of the
guild, Prof. Cenizal explained.
The workshop will have
Mr. Eric Narvaez as the main resource
person. He will provide the introduction
and explanations on the importance
of MIDI (Musical Instrument on Digital
Interface) and its ability to produce
and combine the required sounds of
different instruments into a beautiful
symphony of musical elements.
Narvaez is also expected
to introduce participants to computers,
auto-score keyboard and the Gemelege
speakers and allow them hands-on experience
with the equipment and instruments.
The Actors Workshop
Foundation will hold a course on acting
for film and television, titled Craft:
The Eric Morris System of Work for
Actors, on December 1 &
2 for participants 14 years and above
at the MOWELFUND office on 66 Rosario
Drive, Cubao, Quezon City.
The workshop will be
held from 1 to 7 p.m. with a workshop
fee of P1,500 per person.
The course is intended
to teach actors a system of work which
can help them in dealing with any
script. According to workshop organizers,
the process will discover the actor’s
personal emotional and physical resources,
and use these resources in making
his character real and truthful.
The process stresses
the HOW—kung paano maging
totoo, hindi umaarte.
