EDITORS’
WORKSHOP GETS NCCA FUNDING
Another
Film Academy of the Philippines guild--
the editors’ guild-- will be
holding its two-day workshop in Pagsanjan,
Laguna on December 16 and 17 after
receiving support funds from the National
Commission for Culture and the Arts.
The workshop was approved by the cinema
committee of the NCCA.
This brings to three
the number of workshop-seminars to
be undertaken in December despite
the current budgetary constraints
being faced by the Academy.
Two other workshops—for
musical directors and actors—are
scheduled during the first two weeks
of December.
The musical directors’
workshop on digital production of
music will be held on December 2-3
and 9-10 at the FAP board room at
the OctoArts building on Panay avenue
Q.C. (directly behind the National
Book Store branch). The project is
also sponsored by the NCCA, this time
by its Cinema Values Reorientation
Program (CVRP).
The FAP’s Actors
Workshop Foundation, meanwhile, as
slated for December 1 & 2 a course
on acting for film and television,
aptly titled Craft: The Eric
Morris System of Work for Actors
at the MOWELFUND office at 66 Rosario
Drive, Cubao, Q.C.
The out-of-town editors’
workshop has lined up at least five
directors, four editors and
a cinematographer during it’s
two-day workshop in Pagsanjan.
According to Jess Navarro,
president of the United Films Editors’
Guild of the Philippines (UFEG), the
resource persons will include Directors
Jose Carreon, Mel Chionglo, Jeffrey
Jeturian, Augusto Salvador and Edgardo
‘Boy’ Vinarao. The editors
will include Alex Castañeda,
Dave Hukom, Marya Ignacio and Marcelino
Navarro while the lone cinematographer
is Richard Padernal.
Navarro said the workshop
coordinators include his UFEG co-officers
and members, namely, Cielito Santillan,
Danilo Gloria, Cornelio Crisostomo,
Xever Ramos, Rodolfo Cabrales, Arcadio
Vinarao, Reggie Gulle and Renato de
Leon.
The musical directors’
workshop, according to Prof. Josefino
Cenizal, president of the United Film
Music Directors’ Association
of the Philippines (UFIMDAP), intends
to advance the knowledge and technical
capability of Filipino film musicians,
particularly in the area of computer
technology.
The workshop specifically
aims to provide the participants the
skills to handle digital production
of music through computer and keyboard
interactions that are designed for
musical scoring, arrangement, orchestration
and composition.
The workshop will have
Mr. Eric Narvaez as the main resource
person. He will provide the introduction
and explanations on the importance
of MIDI (Musical Instrument on Digital
Interface) and its ability to produce
and combine the required sounds of
different instruments into a beautiful
symphony of musical elements.
The actors workshop, meanwhile, will
be held from 1 to 7 p.m. on December
1 and 2 with a workshop fee of P1,500
per person.
The course is intended
to teach actors a system of work which
can help them in dealing with any
script. According to workshop organizers,
the process will discover the actor’s
personal emotional and physical resources,
and use these resources in making
his character real and truthful. The
process stresses the HOW—kung
paano maging totoo, hindi umaarte.
